5AA Australia: Across The Ditch With Selwyn Manning & Peter Godfrey – Intervention & DNAIssue 1: Political maneuverings have begun in earnest over whether the New Zealand Government should instruct the Reserve Bank to cool down the New Zealand dollar – Opposition parties believe reducing the value of the Kiwi dollar would provide a more competitive advantage to manufacturers and exports.
There are now two distinct camps in NZ: the hands off, non-regulatory, free market will sort it out camp which the Nationals occupy – and the interventionists which is dominated by the Labour, Greens, and New Zealand First parties. There has also been a new Roy Morgan Poll that shows support for the National Party is on the decline.
Issue 2: A DNA sample of a South Island girl from Queenstown has confirmed she is not missing British girl, Madeleine McCann. Over the last few years Police have been alerted to suspected sightings of Madeleine at a number of South Island locations. On each occassion New Zealand Police were satisfied the child was not the missing girl.
Another suspected sighting earlier this year caused London Metropolitan
Police to request that a DNA sample be taken and tested. The results
came in this week and confirmed that the Kiwi child is not Madeleine.
